Background:
Matsumo was born the middle of three children to prominent Japanese and Chinese doctors, his father a premier forensic pathologist and his mother a well-known and popular paediatrician. His older brother shunted off the tradition of following in his parents’ footsteps and became an artist, running away from home to wander about the galaxy. His sister, Lu Mei became a nurse, joining Starfleet and eventually ending up stationed at the same station that Mat eventually came to join.
Matsumo was an exceptionally bright child, finishing his schooling quickly and entering Kyoto University at the tender age of 16. He quickly flew through his pre-med classes and then went on to study at the Tokyo Academy of Medicine. From there he developed an interest in skin disorders, having met a young girl who suffered from a severe case of eczema, whom he was unable to help with conventional medicine. So he went to the Io Research Facility for Dermatological Disorders where he could study and possibly help the woman. Unfortunately she died in a borg attack before he could help her but he promised he would do whatever he could for others. So when he was offered the Head of Dermatology at the New London facility he jumped at the chance, not knowing that his sister was already being posted there with Starfleet. They haven’t seen each other for some time and did not part on the best of terms.
Personality Profile:
Mat is a very easygoing, soft spoken fellow. He may seem young and perhaps happy go lucky, but he is very serious and dedicated to his work. He studies ancient martial arts and Chinese philosophy. Sometimes he drives people crazy for he likes to speak as if he were Charlie Chan, the fictional old earth Chinese detective. He can also be quite a jokester at times but is very subtle about it because of his quiet ways. He loves animals and playing poker. He is currently single but always looking, in his own way.

Having parted on not so good terms with his sister, Lu Mei, Matsumo does not know that she will be here on this base as well.
